During the last 3 months of 2009 I made a few changes to my diet and as a direct result of I lost over 3 stone in weight (just in time for Christmas!)

Since losing weight numerous people have asked how?

The 1st thing I would like to say on this is that we are all different and so the approach I have taken may not be right for you. The 2nd thing is that since I started my journey to find the “new me” I have started to educate myself on the impact of the things we put in our bodies (food, drink, etc) and the positive changes that are simple to make.

So for those of you who are interested in how I have improved my health through food (and a little exercise) welcome to my new blog.

I am writing this first post on a day where the BBC news this morning featured Kate Silverton asking NICE (The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) why they as a watchdog for drugs and medication were suddenly taking an interest in food.

The ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates of Cos (ca. 460 BC – ca. 370 BC), often referred to as the Western father of medicine said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Despite this many modern physicians would rather prescribe some pills to take away the symptoms rather than deal with the potential cause of illness – our diets. In a world where many drug companies and food companies are interlinked it sadly comes as little surprise.

Since I took the positive decision to change my diet in September 2009, I have not only lost weight but perhaps more importantly I no longer appear to suffer from Asthma. The more I take the time to learn about the human body and effects of food, the more I agree with Hippocrates.
